Gemini Gedit Plugin For All Those TextMate Fans
update: I’ve switched to OS X full time at work and at home and with other impending projects I’m unable to continue working on this plugin. I’m glad to say it is open source and I won’t feel bad if someone grabs it and makes it better so long as they mention me in the source code.
Gemini Gedit Plugin completes characters we often see together. Anyone who wants to speed up their typing with smart completion ought to check it out. It is compatible with the acclaimed Snippets plugin and requires the latest version of pygtk installed (comes with Ubuntu Edgy).
Things it does:
- Completes the following characters: < {['""']}>
- deletes both inserted characters on backspace or deletes only the closing character if you hit delete
- inserts proper indentation when you hit the Enter between {}
- pads selected text with a pair when you type the starting character
It is my first Gedit plugin and my first ’serious’ python script. I decided to GPL the code because I like doing what’s right.
To install simply drop the content of gemini.tar.gz file in the ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins/ directory or if you have admin rights
to the /usr/lib/gedit-2/plugins/ directory.
Why Sun Open Sourcing Java Is Good
Sun did a great move with this. Their idea is most likely to slow C# adoption and perhaps even turn it around but there is more. Lots of projects will see the light of day and others which have been started already will make some big noise in the industry.
I can think of JRuby which allows a user to compile ruby to java bytecode and use java libraries directly in their code. This allows programmers the best of both worlds. They can write using a concise high level language and excute it on a very fast and portable platform.
But it doesn’t stop here. Parrot is a project aiming to unify numerous languages under one portable platform. Essentially this platform could run compiled languages from very high languages such as LISP or Java without any problem. Parrot could borrow much of the infrastructure Java uses to make it even better.
I do expect some big news to come out of this within the next 6 month.
How Guys Pay More For Clothing
2006 - Yesterday my wife and I went shopping for a sweater. I found one I liked but at 115$ it was way too expensive for me. I kept on walking and in another store settled for one at 40$ (down from 49$).
1996 - I was debatting at the high school. The resolution was “Be it resolved that men and women should pay the same fee for car insurance” and one of my arguments was that society had allowed for unfair behavior to occur for too long.
Just like restaurant owners don’t charge different prices for the same meal, hairdressers and insurance salespeople should not make people pay differently based on sex or how much you’ll like your hair cut.
Girl in the opposition: “But women don’t get their hair cut as often” she heckled
Me: “That’s no justification, it’s an excuse”.
2006 - Walking out of the store we entered another. My wife found a sweater she liked.
Woman at the counter: “That’ll be 20$.”
Me: “I didn’t notice it was on sale!”
Woman at the counter: “It isn’t”
Me: “Wow! Men easily pay twice as much for the same stuff!”
Woman at the counter: “The difference is that a woman will be sick and tired of her clothes in 3 months.”
So I guess we’ll always pay whatever people are willing to pay.
Ted Haggard Is Most Likely Guilty Of Gay Acts
My opinion is that Ted Haggard is a liar about his gay acts and doing drugs. First he denied all allegations but when evidence showed up he changed his mind and decided to admit to the allegations of purchasing drugs. The he wants to convince us that he did buy the drugs but did not use them. That’s like saying you did buy that Big Mac but you never ate it.
Here is video evidence showing that Ted Haggard most likely had gay sex with Mike Jones, most likely used meth on numerous occasions and most likely lies about it today to save face in front of his congregation.
Evidence #1:
Ted Haggard claims he doesn’t even know Mike Jones.
Reporter: Do you know Mike Jones?
Ted Haggard: No I do not know Mike Jones.
Evidence #2:
Ted Haggard: I think I know what you did last night. If you send me a thousand dollars I won’t tell your wife.
Evidence: #3:
Reporter: The voice expert […] has matched now 18 of your words left on the voicemail […]
Ted Haggard: I did call him. I did call him.
Reporter: What did you call him about?
Ted Haggard: I called him to buy some meth but I threw it away.
[…]
Reporter: how did you know he would sell it to you?
Ted Haggard: He told me about it, I went there for a massage.
Ted Haggard lied and lost the trust of his congregation. He did step down but his congregation should not accept his return unless they too are hypocrites. The position he held was one of trust and having lied to us all he should not be given another chance at lying to us and shaping religion and politics if he has demons of his own he is trying to battle.
